Construction Bond?

Friday, October 30th, 2009
eddygordo19 asked:

A group of guys want to start up a general contracting company, and they have the necessary expertise in bidding and running government projects. What they don’t have is the financial backing so they are looking for a partner.

Will the insurance company require collateral in equal amount to the bond? Do they accept less? Do they require more?
Most government contruction projects require the general contracter to post a performance and payment bond for the value of the project.

Can a contractor withhold paychecks from a subcontractor?

Gringo asked:

I work for a major delivery service and a certain delivery has been lost, for which the apparent price is $2,000. My contractor owes me roughly $2,000 for hours I’ve already put in. Does he have the legal right to withhold my paychecks and make me pay the apparent price of the claim? Shouldn’t there be insurance for a package of this price, whether on the side of the receiver or the delivery service (company or contractor)?
Btw, I’m the driver, he’s the owner of the route/vehicle.

My residential construction company is being audited by our Workers Comp Insurance provider. What should I expect? What to be prepared for? What do I need? They gave me a list of items they will be checking, but the list is a bit general. Any help appreciated.

grafter asked:

hey guys – i was recently watching apprentice, and before every task Donald Trump says:
the ______ industry is worth___ billion dollars every year

so this made me think – what are the biggest global industries? like i was wondering if anyone could find the top 10 or something?

i tried to search google but the only good information i found is that the food and agriculture industry is worth $48 trillion every year.

my guesses are that the biggest industrys are probably
medication
weapons
insurance
banking
construction

anyways it would be great to hear some opinions on this :)
